How to Ask for and Give Directions in German

Entschuldigung, wie komme ich zum Bahnhof? In this lesson, Luzi from YourGermanTeacher teaches you how to ask for directions, how to give them and how to understand them. In German textbooks this topic is often called Wegbeschreibung (describing the way) or Nach dem Weg fragen (asking for directions).

Listening Practice: A Phone Call

At the end of the video, Luzi runs out of fuel and calls Johannes. Johannes gives the way to the gas station in German: he tells him to go straight, turn left at the next traffic light, go another 200 metres until he sees a park, turn right at the park, and so on until the gas station is on the right side. Luzi asks him to repeat it slowly, which is a useful thing to know how to ask. Listen to the video and follow along.
